Did you know?
Computer Services is now offering Symantec
AntiVirus to all students for free. As long as you
remain a student at OBU and you are using OBU's computer
network, you will receive all virus updates for free.
Computer Services does recommend using TrendMicro's Housecall to scan for viruses before installing
Symantec AntiVirus. Click
here for
more information.
Scan for
viruses now using Trend's sysclean or
Microsoft's Malware removal tool (or both)!
A computer virus is a piece of software that
has been written to surreptitiously enter your computer system
and "infect" your files. Some viruses are benign and
won't harm your system, while others are destructive and can
damage or destroy your data. Many web
sites provide information on viruses and document whether
certain viruses are "real" or "hoax." One
such site is http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html.
This is an online virus encyclopedia which can provide
specific information on viruses. For a list of
"hoax" viruses see http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html

Do an Online Scan NOW from the web. This doesn't
install any software or replace a good AV program.
Antivirus Software: Computer Services uses Norton Antivirus on
all of the servers and PC's that the University owns. We
have found it to be a reliable program for detecting viruses
and protecting your computer. Though we have not used them,
there are other virus programs available such as McAffee,
Trend Micro, and F-Prot . Though we have no first hand
knowledge of the product, there is a free antivirus program
download at
http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/ and
http://www.grisoft.com.
